THE STORY BEHIND THE BEAUTY OF CHALLENGES; MY STORY (Summarised.) BY Dr. BIEN SUFFICIENT.
In my life I have had to take up life challenges by the head. So many things that were wired to bring me down I turned it into a force of motivation for me. I was born into a humble home; I was exposed to a lot of difficult tasks before I was even a teenager. Even though we were not rich, my dad was determined that we were all going to be educatedand get our degrees before we get married. We barely had help from anywhere so we were forced to do all kinds of farming to make ends meet as my parents were missionaries.
I really never liked the idea of going to farm after school in the heat of the sun but I never had a choice anyways. My Dad taught us to be hard workers and never to expect to get something for nothing. Then I was not really happy about the fact that I couldn’t live in the luxury other kids were living in, but I have come to appreciate my parents even more for what those days of hard work has built in me. An internal stamina that I never knew I had.
At the age of 9, I was already hawking things on the street to sell, living alone with my two younger siblings I was taking care of. I will go to the market buy food stuffs and make breakfast, lunch and dinner for my siblings and I at the age of nine. Yes nine! I was already in my first year in high school (secondary school) Before I clocked ten. I will wake up early in the morning wake them up, do our prayers together and I will take them to school, before I leave for my own school, walking miles everyday to school and back home. And when we are back from school, I will prepare launch for us, after which my immediate younger sister and I will hit the streets to sell our goods by hawking which were mainly food items (tomatoes, yams and garri). My youngest brother stayed back at home with the neighbors because he was very young at the time.
I remember how I used to run and hide behind cars each time I was hawking in the street and I came across any of my school mates. It used to be very embarrassing to me. But today all those challenges and difficulties I thought were disadvantages, have contributed greatly to who I am today. I have become very strong internally, thanks to those early days. Because of the poverty I had to endure growing up, I decided I was going to be rich not just rich but wealthy. I am sure on my way to that goal, not there yet, but I am not where I use to be. The journey is a very progressive one, and I cannot wait to embrace all the greatness the future holds for me.
Irrespective of the financial restraint we had in our family, I was able to get my medical degree in Eastern Europe, got scholarship for two years, but for the most part of it, I had to sponsor myself through school. If not for my early years of learning to fend for myself and my siblings, how on earth would that have being possible? What is your story? What are your challenges? What are the obstacles you are having now? You can surely take advantage of it.
Life has a way of turning our darkest moments around if only we know how to take advantage of those dark moments. The night does not last forever; it is just a couple of hours. But surely after the night comes the day. So be focus on the day that will surely come if you are in your night now. Let that be your motivating force to overcome the challenges you are facing now. Or better still turn those challenges to motivations to live a better and higher life. It will not be easy but it is surely worth it.
If you were not born with a golden spoon, please go get one. Do not live in sadness and depression because of that, when you can let that be your motivation to getting your own golden spoon. I have gotten mine and I am sure on my way to getting many more. Getting many more I sure will! Stop complaining about what you do not have and the difficulties and challenges you are facing. Let that be a motivation to you instead. Choose to be happy, choose to keep your hope and faith going, choose to succeed, and choose to never give up. Whatsoever you set your heart on to do, you can do it. Tap into your internal strength, face that challenge and you will be amazed at how much strength you possess. YES YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN! THAT DREAM IS POSSIBLE!!!
The challenges I had as a child growing up from a humble home, to the best part of it, has built me to who I am today. It has given me the drive and confidence to move on in life irrespective of what life throws at me. It has become a motivating factor that pushes me to strive harder and give my best at everything I do, in order to be able to give my children, other children and fellow humans around me what I did not have as a child.
Yes I work hard thanks to what I had to go through that gave me a first-hand understanding of life. I have an understanding of the pains of hunger, without knowing or having a hope of where the next meal is going to come from. If someone tells me I am hungry, I will be moved to satisfy that hunger. Why? Very simply, I know exactly how it feels. This has helped me to be more kind to people and very frugal about finances. It has thought me to seek financial freedom. Yes thanks to those days of lack.
Well today some people might choose to call what I went through child labor or child abuse. Some say is not right and different kinds of opinion about it. That does not really matter to me now. Truth be told, I am grateful for those days. Yes those days taught me to be very responsible, focus, strong, determinate and equipped for the future. Because of those days I can say, with God’s help there is nothing life will throw at me, that will make me bore my head or quilt on life.
You too can take advantage of your life. YES INDEED THERE IS BEAUTY IN CHALLENGES!!!
