By Dr. Bien Sufficient

This topic is very important one and dear to my heart. It is a topic we should take seriously. I mean the single life. It is quite unfortunate that we don’t get to talk about this topic in details so often. Today, so many people go through life without really knowing what it means to be single. Even though they answer the name singles or say, “I am single”, they don’t really know what it means to be single. The fact that you are not married does not necessarily mean you are single. You are simply unmarried if you ask me. Why did I say so? You might agree with me that nowadays, young people hardly stay by themselves without being in one relationship or the other. They see living without being in a relationship as something negative, boring or bad. But the reverse is actually the case.

You mean the single life is more important than the married life? Oh yes! The single life is much more important than the married life because the married life is dependent upon the single life. The quality of your marriage is directly proportional to the quality of your single life. You bring into your marriage who you were as a single. Marriage does not change anyone. If you are not happy as a single person, marriage will not give you that happiness.

If there is any phase of life we have to spend time building ourselves and developing our capacity as humans, it’s the single life. But this is not the case today. Majority of the masses go through life without really being single. Beginning from their early teens, they date one another, moving from one relationship to the other until they finally get married. Young people don’t know how to live by themselves. They find it difficult to be alone.

Being single does not seem attractive in our society anymore. You just have to be in one relationship or the other to feel important. You just have to be “hooked up” to be happy. “Singles” even go to the extent of begging their friends to hook them up just because they don’t want to be single. Being single now is like a bad news to so many people. We fail to recognize the great value and importance of this phase of our lives. The single phase of life is the time you have little or less distractions. You have all the time to yourself for personal development, self-building and capacity development.

Many people go into marriage without really passing through this phase of life, and then when they marry, they end up with challenges and difficulties in their marriages. The way people talk about marriage these days is amazing. People treat marriage as an achievement, thus everyone wants a quick marriage, avoiding or running away from the single phase of life as if it were a curse.

The single life is a blessing from God. Those who maximize their single life, have a greater chance of maximizing their marriage. Don’t run into marriage thinking marriage is the solution to the challenges you have as a single. The challenges you do not overcome as a single will multiply in your marriage. Build yourself up; enlarge your capacity; develop yourself and maximize your single life before marriage and you will be happy you did. If you ask me, I think it is actually a minus to go into marriage without discovering yourself and knowing what your purpose is in life. Oh yes! I did enjoy my single life!!!

Dear friends, let’s enjoy and maximize our single life before we move over to marriage.

Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets”- Amos 3:7.

So disappointing today that those who should be accountable secret keepers for God are now fame seekers. Our prophets are now concerned about knowing the secret of men so as to get something from them in expense of knowing the secrets of God for the moment concerning the nation.
As it was in the days of my youth when the secret of the Lord was upon my tabernacle”-Job 29:4.

Job was outstanding in his generation as a result of his access to the secrets of God. Elijah and Elisha lived as the spiritual head of Israel as a result of them knowing the mind of God per time concerning Israel. Elisha was using his prophetic grace to give solutions to the need of the economy not to make name for himself. He was not concerned about what the kings would give him, he was concerned about God’s agenda to be initiated and preserved in Israel.

John was a voice in the wilderness, telling the people about the messiah. He was proclaiming the shortcomings of the people at that time. He understood what heaven was saying to Israel at that time.

Oh, our prophets today want to make a name in expense to taking responsibility of knowing God’s mind for our nation. They want to build mega churches so as to have the people for themselves. Elisha was concerned about the famine of the land to the extent that he came up openly to declare God’s counsel on the issue. Elijah told the people about the seizure of rain and the release of rain and its effect.

Why are the prophets of our nation quite about the issues of our country? Why are they quick to address the congregation than the nation? Elisha could discern the conversations of the King of Samaria in his bedroom, what are our prophets discerning?

“The prophet comes to set up that which is upset. His work is to call into line those who are out of line! He is unpopular, he opposes the popular in morality and spiritually in a day of faceless politicians and voiceless preachers, there is not a more urgent national need than that we cry to God for a prophet”- Leonard Ravenhill.

One of the reasons why many struggle with being in alignment with God is because they forget that many times, being in alignment with God comes with rejection and insignificance with men.

Can I ask you, if God tells you that, “as you continue to seek him no one will know you”, will you still continue to remain fervent in your prayer and fasting? If God tells you today that He will be sending you to a village to reach out to the villagers all the days of your life without anyone seeing or hearing about your works, will you still continue to prepare yourself to be used by God?

Sometimes, I wonder why people that are called into ministries at metropolitan cities are increasing day by day. I wonder if God has forgotten those in the remote villages. I remember visiting a village earlier this year at the outskirt of Vandeikya, Benue State, Nigeria close to Obudu, Cross River state for rural village outreach with the Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship. We were told that the last time missionaries visited the village was 1972. I wondered what was going on with the thousands of ministries that are competing in the cities of Benue State.

Enough of our prophets coming on air to tell us what they have done when they have enormous things God want them to do that they have not done. The crave of fame and prosperity is now the motive why many are going into ministry. A need is not equivalent to the calling. Many have become ministers, pastors because of their personal need.

Prophets are unwelcomed due to the following reasons;

Many of God’s sheep are going astray because there are no prophets to show them the way. Millions of people are on the fast lane to hell but our prophets are quite about it even when they are aware of it because they want to be welcomed by men.

Our prophets are keeping thousands that are out of line in church so that the people won’t leave them. Churches are now becoming “Hell Embassy” where people out of line go to with the motive to wile away time without the assurance of heaven.

When we begin to hear our prophet say “My church”, I begin to wonder when they shed their blood and when they got crucified for their so called denomination. When I hear young ministers say “my ministry”, I wonder how they got a ministry by themselves.

When are we going call a spade a spade and hold the bull by the horn? Sinners are feeling comfortable by our company. We have made ourselves welcomed by men in expense of being welcomed in heaven.

The only message of John the Baptist was to call those that out of line into line. The summary of his message throughout his earthly ministry was, “repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand”

If your primary goal and priority is being popular as God’s change agent in a time like this when immorality is at its peak, then the Lord’s battle is not for you. John the Baptist was a voice in the wilderness opposing the popular immorality. He was not popular for the wave of doctrine and spirituality of the Pharisee. He came opposing to the extent of telling King Herod of His abnormalities. He was not after the bogus titles or the extravagant regalia like the Pharisee.

Dr. A.W Tozer made a significant reputation in America by opposing the immorality of the country when he said, “America is laughing her way to hell”

We are in an era where it seems as if the politicians are faceless. A time where preachers are voiceless as immoralities and decadences is at the peak. Our politicians that our prophets told us to elect are making rules and policies against the move of God yet they remain silent about it. All we see and hear online is that our prophets are visiting politicians and taking photographs with them.

Elijah faced the faceless King Ahab during his time and spoke God’s counsel even at the expense of his life. In opposite to what we have today, there came a time that Elijah could not visit the King because of the King’s wife Jezebel, sought his life.

So disappointing today that the presidents and governors who are against God’s will are hosting our prophets in their ritual amassed mansions and all we see is our prophets smiling in photograph.

Can you imagine Elijah during the atrocities of Jezebel, smiling in a photograph with Ahab and Jezebel?

John, the Baptist was a threat to King Herod. He proclaimed God’s word to Herod and the words were not appealing in Herod’s ears. What we hear our prophets’ say to our politicians is, “it is well, God will do this and that through you” after they had considered the envelopes attached. John was imprisoned and beheaded for his course of standing for the truth. The apostles were punished, imprisoned for declaring God’s ordinances.

Elisha’s life was at stake as a prophet. The King of Samaria was looking for means to kill Elisha (2 Kings 6:11-18). He was a terror to the king. Elijah called down fire on the host sent against him by the king. He made an open show of the prophets of Baal. We have so many denominations of Baal that are enemies to the cross but there are no prophets to rebuke them. How long are we going to continue like this?

Let us consider the conversation of Elijah and King Ahab when they had their first face to face encounter;

And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, ART THOU HE THAT TROUBLETH ISRAEL?

How many of our prophet can be bold to face the politicians of our nation and their entourage and say to them that they are the trouble of our nation?

“The prophet is God’s detective seeking for a lost treasure. The degree of his effectiveness is determined by his measure of unpopularity”- LEONARD RAVENHILL.

Prophets are unloved because they revealed the deteriorating state of men. Prophets are known in prison than on pulpit. They are always corrupt government. They die early than living long enjoying the presence of iniquities among men.

Ye have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet ye say, wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, EVERYONE THAT DOETH EVIL IS GOOD IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD, AND HE DELIGHTETH IN THEM; or, where is the God of judgment”.- Mal. 3:17.

Our prophets have wearied the Lord. They have told our politicians that perpetuate evil that they are doing good in the sight of the Lord. They have side-lined the judgment of the Lord.

The effectiveness of John the Baptist was as a result of his unpopularity when he stayed alone in the wilderness. Can you deny yourself of popularity so that you can be effective in national transformation? You we remain alone with God for years without anyone noticing us in order to cry out to God for the revival of our nation?

Our national need at the hour is not that dollar recover its strength, or we save face over the Watergate affair, or that we find the answer to the ecology problem. We need a God-sent prophet”- Leonard Ravenhill.

A need of God’s sent prophet is the cry of the now. There is a sign post erected in the spirit; “VACANCY; WANTED, A NEED OF A PROPHETIC PEOPLE”. MAY God send us prophets after his own hearts, men with unbendable character and unquestionable integrity.

Life with God has to become our biggest value.
Manifesting God to this generation has to become our daily agenda and all our other needs shall be met.
Your relationship with God broadens your opportunities and influence on earth.

Acquaint now thyself with him and be at peace: there by good shall come unto thee.
Receive, I pray thee, the lake from his mouth, and lay up this words in thine heart.
If thou return to the ALMIGHTY THOU SHALT BE BUILT UP, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles”.- Job 22:21-23.

May the goal of your life be intimacy with God. May this not be merely words or what you say in church only.

Always choose fellowship with God in everything and He will appreciate your faithfulness.

Dad: Son, you have done well. I’m proud of you.
Me: Dad, I’m still on the verge of doing my best.

Dad: you just continue walking. Follow the path which I have set your feet.
Me: Dad, I can’t continue on this path anymore. Nations are waiting for me; I’m getting old by the day. My mates are getting ahead of me. Dad I can’t continue on this path, I need a faster path to limelight.

Dad: David, my son. While on this path, you have passed through the village of University, you have knowledge of me and most importantly, I called you to ministry. It is not every son that knows the mind of his father and benefits from the resources of his father.
Me: these resources appear to be limited to me. I have seen other children not having knowledge of their father but are ahead. I need a faster lane on this journey; I want to get to my expected end as fast as possible.

Dad: have you forgotten the sign posts I showed you while passing through University village?
Me: I remember them, passing through University village was challenging. One of the sign post says “the vision is for an appointed time though it may tarry, wait for it for it will surely come to past”.

Dad: good, that is one of it.
Me: but I have been waiting, some are not waiting but are going ahead and walking pass me even in the village. .

Dad: my son, motion does not always signify progress. Those visions I showed you and spoke to you about through your journey manual will come to past; they are for an appointed time.
Me: dad, I also read in the manual that “now is the appointed time, now is the day of salvation”. Why not now Dad, the words from the manual are your words. Am looking unto you Dad; you made me know that you are the author and finisher of my faith. Did finish what you have started in my life now.

Dad: you are knowledgeable David but you aren’t applying the instructions from the journey manual in right earnest, remember this from the manual “the letters killeth but the spirit giveth live”. I can be quick to save my children but I take them through a journey to make them.
Me: I can’t take it any longer, I want to jump ahead of the lane.

Dad: you have the choice to make but that is not my will for you.
Me: I should be able to skip some lanes if I jump, I only need a great height to jump.

Dad: at your own will my son.
Me: (David left the lane for the journey to locate a cliff to jump), Dad! Dad!! am hurt. I have broken my legs, please come to my rescue. Don’t forsake me Dad.

Dad: here I am David . I will never leave you nor forsake you. I am with you always.
Me: Dad, my leg hurts. I can’t move at the moment (tears rolling down the eyes).

Dad: my son, I am closer to you than a friend. When you made the decision, I was with you. While you were about to jump, I was there. While jumping, I was with you. Here I am again by your side.
Me: you said you were with me while I was yet to jump and even when I jumped. Why did you allow me Dad, you told me years ago that you know my end from my beginning.

Dad: you’re correct. Remember from the initial stage of your life, I have placed before you life and death but choose life that you may live.
Me: why can’t you make choices for me Dad.

Dad: you have your will and choices to make but my perfect will for you is for you to obey me precepts upon precepts.
Me: I thought I could do it on my own.

Dad: my thought for you are of good and not evil to give you an expected end but you choose the evil.
Me: I repent of my wrong doing, have mercy on me Dad.

Dad: my mercy endures forever more, you have to return to the path which I have placed you initially.
Me: what of my legs?

Dad: arise my son, shake the pains off and stand.
(David arose, His Dad lifts him up and embrace him)
Me: I will remain in your confide Dad, I will tread this path. For those that has gone ahead of me, I will pursue, overtake and recover all.

Dad: that is my son.

“The Holy Spirit is searching for new recruits in the army of God. The Lord has put out a big sign for us each to read; ‘Wanted! A Generation Of Prophetic People’.”

The rise of prophetic people is the cry of the now. It is not a matter of being called to start a church or ministry with a prophetic grace. It is a call for every believer to operate in the prophetic grace with the sole aim of provoking a national transformation. As a reader of this article, you may say, “I am not called to be a prophet. Does God want me to be a prophet? Do I have to be a prophet before I can be involved in national transformation and global revolution?”

God is looking for men who will be like John the Baptist. Men that will be voices in the wilderness (corrupt sectors of our country) crying for social transformation. Where are the Elijahs and Elishas of our generation? Where are the Samuels and Moseses? Are they on vacation? Are they contented with staying in the four walls of the church? Are they concerned about building empires and cathedrals for themselves when the nation is deteriorating day by day?

And they asked him, what then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. Then said they unto him, who art thou? THAT WE MAY GIVE AN ANSWER TO THEM that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
He said I am THE VOICE of one crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias”- John 1:21-23.

All sectors of our country need our identity. They want an answer for what we represent in the affairs of our nation. It is not enough that we have told them we are Christians. We have to let them know we are ambassadors of the Kingdom. We are on earth to engage the Kingdom of God and it’s principles to all sectors.

We are meant to be voices of solution in all sectors: political, education, economy and so on. Our voices should not be silent on the affairs of our country. We are to make straight the way of the Lord in whatever area of life we find ourselves. We are to show the nation the way to go. As Kingdom representatives, this is expected of us. The voice of the nation through the president, senators, and governors shouldn’t be our voice. We are the voice of the nation.

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou comest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and ordained thee A PROPHET unto the nations”- Jer. 1:5.

We are prophets unto the nations. Many times, we quote this Scripture only for us to come to the consciousness that God knows us and has plans for us. We don’t take it further to know God’s plan for us. His plan from the text for Jeremiah is to make him a prophet to the nations and He expects us to be same.

Are you an entrepreneur just to make a living? Are you a pastor just to celebrate church attendance? Are you a professor because you want a title for yourself? There is more to that. Any man’s achievement that does not affect his or her environment positively is questionable.

Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See I have this set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms TO ROOT OUT, AND TO PULL DOWN, AND TO DESTROY,AND TO THROW DOWN, TO BUILD AND TO PLANT”- Jer. 1:9-10.

God has placed His words in our mouths. He has set us over nations and kingdoms to root out decadence; to pull down abnormalities; to destroy the plans of the enemies; to throw down those that are not supposed to be in authority; to build the Lord’s precepts in all affairs of our nation and plant the seed of national transformation.

And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? LET HIM COME TO ME, AND HE SHALL KNOW THAT THERE IS A PROPHET IN ISRAEL”- 2 Kings 5:8.

Our president and governors are confused. They are rending their clothes. They are in disarray seeking help by all means. This is a time to let them know that we have a prophetic generation in our country. We should be believers who can proclaim the mind of God and reveal God’s agenda for this time.
“Then Elisha said, Hear the word of the Lord; thus saith the Lord, tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of the Samaria”- 2 Kings 7:1.

Who will tell us the word of God for our nation for this season? Will our pastors tell us God’s agenda for our nation instead of telling us plans for church attendance in meetings? There is famine everywhere; economic meltdown is becoming intensified day by day and it appears as if God is silent on the affairs of our nation.
I am glad to let you know that God is not silent about the chaos of our nation until we are silent as believers and refuse to take actions. Where are the Elishas that would give us the answers to our questions? Who will reveal to us the mind of God?

And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was they preserved”- Hosea 12:13.

After God hearkened to the cry of the Israelites, He sent Moses to deliver them from their sufferings (Exodus 3). Moses came as a prophet of deliverance from the sufferings of the Israelites in Egypt.
When there is a need for the deliverance and preservation of a nation, the Lord sends or raises up a prophet as a deliverer to undertake the task. What our nation needs at the moment is the rise of a prophetic generation of believers that are conscious of God’s agenda for the now.

“For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken”- Deut. 18:14-15.
“And if thou say in thine heart, how shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken?
When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shall not be afraid of him”- Deut. 18:21-22.

Moses identified his authority as a prophet to deliver Israel. He was a medium of communication of God’s mind to the people. He noted and communicated the requisite of being a prophet for the nation. One way to know a deceiver who comes in the name of a prophet is to note whether his words would come to pass. Many times, we have seen men come in the name of a prophet to deliver to us words for our country but we haven’t seen the reality of it. Many of them had spoken presumptuously.

THE CHURCH  “The Present Day Prison” by Dr. Bien Sufficient

Now, just by this topic, so many will be ready to crucify me. Well, I guess by this title I have done the unfathomable. But before you crucify me, I will like to appeal to you to read the article to the end. Then at least you will have a strong ground, if any, to throw the stones. Don’t get it wrong friends. I have being a Church kid since I was born. I was born in the Church, raised in the Church; all my life the Church has being a part me and I am a part of the Church till date. I love the Church. But the happenings in the present day Church gives me concern. I don’t believe that most of the practices we have in the present day Church has any biblical backings. The Church we have today in most places is not the kind of Church Christ had in mind for His body.

Having said that, I believe this will give you an understanding that I know what I am talking about. My parents were pastors and still in the ministry till date. But my burden however, is what we Christians, Pastors and Church founders of all sorts have turned the church (the body of Christ) to.

The Church has been turned into a religious center that cages its members (the prisoners) in this modernized prison. These members are being given several duties to do except the Great Commission which is the heartbeat of God and of course, the only responsibility Christ left for the Church. Members of the Church have become so comfortable in the four walls of the Church, being so busy with different activities but having no results to show for it.

Then, one may wonder why the state of the society is deteriorating by the second? Isn’t it obvious to us? We, the believers, have left our duty posts and confined ourselves to the four walls of our modern prison “the Church”.

People that were called to be deliverers, salts and lights of the world, do not have any knowledge of their purpose on the earth. This is because the prison owners (the Pastors) have succeeded in teaching the people otherwise. When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.

We have abused the Church because so little of us know and understand what the purpose of the Church is. That is why we can have thousands of Churches in a city with little or no impact. Evil is on the rise in our societies today while believers complain, folding their hands and praying that God will come and do what He has asked us to do in this world.

For how long will we continue playing Church? How long will we practice religion seeing that it is not the heartbeat of God for His Church? Why have we abandoned our purpose in life for Church activities? Living to make ends meet instead of making impact in our time. Many of us might not know how detrimental this situation is in our Churches today.

I once asked some youths; I mean vibrate youths, very active members of strong churches what their purposes were. I was amazed of some of the answers I received from these young people. Over 90% of them were telling me of different groups or positions they belong to in the Church such as, “I am a choir member; I belong to the ushering department; I am in the prayer team; I am in hospitality unity.” etc.

My heart bleeds to know that even as I am writing this article right now, there are so many active members of the Church who do not know what their callings are in life, or what sphere of life God has called them into. We have exchanged the mundane activities in Church for the great purpose for which God created us in the first place.

My question is, how many of us will not go to our work place as an employee because we did our house chores? I bet no employee will dare stay home and not go to work because he/she did some very serious house chores.

Wondering why I am bringing the issue of house chores here? Well, yes! I am bringing it here because that is what Church activities are: house chores or you might choose to call it housekeeping. As important as doing your house chores is, that does not stop you from going to your workplace and performing your assigned duties there.

So why should house chores in the Church replace your purpose in life and responsibility to God and the society at large. It is high time we threw away religion to where it belongs, and arise as a Church to empower our members and release them from this prison we have created in the four walls of the Church. We should release them into the society to create the transformation we have been believing God for. Why? God is waiting on us to do it.

I don’t know about you but I am long done with playing Church. It is time for us to take the kingdom of God to all nations and spheres of life. This is the very purpose why I was created and that is the same reason why you were also created. Jesus died on the cross for this very purpose. We cannot afford to fail God in this season. It is time for us to arise to our responsibilities. Let us take back the nations for Christ.

Writing this article is born out of the necessity in attempt of the answer my nation needs in getting the transformation she desires and deserves.

Many Nigerians have been asking after the presidential election, why are we still remaining on the same level? Are we retrograding? Where is the change we voted for? Is Buhari the right man? Why are the prophecies our so called men of God told us not coming to past? Should we continue to wait? Where are we going from here?

Follow this article closely as I make an attempt to answer the question with God’s ordained solutions in initiating a national transformation and spiritual re-awakening in our nation. You are free to agree or disagree with me as I take a cursory look at four vital areas of responsibilities neglected as citizens despite how spiritual we claim to be or appear.

The scarcity of God’s power to effect a positive change in our nation is not the deficiency of God in our nation or men of God in our nation; it is rather the unavailability of believers that are committed to spiritual responsibility.

Some set of people promised us “change” even when they are not certain of the kind of change they wanted to offer and we all believed them to be agents of change the nation has been longing for.

Every believer in our nation is the change the nation is waiting for. Until believers in Nigeria rise up to responsibility in all sectors, national transformation is not in view. If we continue to sit down in our comfort zone following the news of economic meltdown, inter and intra ethnic wars and expecting a change somewhere is like breeding a chicken and expecting it to grow  tooth.

And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and sad, AM I GOD, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? Wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me”

We have complained enough, but I want you to know that God is not answerable to the complaints of men. The king of Israel responded to the letter sent to him with a question that our president is also subconsciously asking the citizens of the nation; “Am I God?”.

We have been laying petitions to our president to recover our country from the leprosy of corruption, from the corruption of bad governance, from the leprosy of poor infrastructural and so on. The president is saying to you and I, “AM I GOD?”.

As a reader of this article, you might wonder how the writer of this article know this or you are saying; “Is the writer saying our president is a wanderer?” or “is he saying our president is not good enough for the task of national transformation?”.

It is the commitment and responsibility of believers to engage God for national transformation irrespective of who the president is. Not the person of the president that will save us but the reality of the personality of God in action that will deliver us.

We have hoped enough; we have cried enough, it is time to take responsibility. We have been sailing from one voyage of decadence to the other. We need an answer, we need a solution. Things are getting worse visibly with respect to our expectation.

To be continued…
